Solo Travel Tips for Holiday Savings: It is time you start considering alternatives to “Home Alone for the Holidays”. Be aware that flights are selling out already. Prices are moving up rapidly.
I discovered this myself. Having booked a SE Asia river cruise in early August, I researched airfares. I saw an Air China special from the West Coast to Ho Chi Minh City. It was less than $1,000 good through Dec. 9. However, rates thereafter were moving ahead daily if you could even find an available flight.
Research shows the best airfare deals come out around Tuesday-Wednesday. Top deals were typically found on the latter. On a Tuesday I carefully researched Air China flights. I would then go through Bangkok to Cambodia and back from Vietnam to Bangkok and home again to DC. On the Bangkok round trip economy I saw prices from $1300+-$1500+ on my chosen Air China flight. Holding out for Wednesday, I found no seats left on Dec. 25 on Air China’s own website. On a major discounter’s booking engine, I paid just over $2100 for economy on the same flight.
There are 3 lessons I learned:
Solo Travel Tips for Holiday Savings: Tip One:
Book as early as possible.
Solo Travel Tips for Holiday Savings: Tip Two:
When you see a great price, take it and don’t wait.
Solo Travel Tips for Holiday Savings: Tip Three:
Think about taking your year-end celebration before Christmas and New Year’s prices sky rocket. In both Canada and the US Thanksgiving would have been a better price.
The longer you wait the more you will pay with fewer options left. Dust off your bucket list today. See where you can welcome the holidays!
