Solo Travel Destination France Great Prices: France, a perpetually favorite destination, always seems expensive. As much as I love it, it is always a question of how to stay on budget, especially in Paris. The highest price, after airfare, is always lodging.
France: Save on Lodging:
After nine trips to France, here are the top ways I have found to save on lodging while still keeping a level of quality:
- Traveling off-season. This provides an immediate discount of up to 50% off. I have stayed in the heart of Paris Left Bank in a 4 star hotel for half-price. My charming guest room featured oil paintings and the style for which Paris is known. I was walking distance from everything from Notre Dame to the Musee d’Orsay. Although this trip was in January, as early as Sept 9, I have found 50% off in the French Riviera.
- Stay in the suburbs of Paris or at the airport. Years ago a friend and I had a business trip ending in Paris. We found a fabulous discount at the Sheraton at the Charles de Gaulle Airport. We walked each day to the Metro to go into the city center. Airport hotels tend to be modern high rises rather than quaint. However, besides the price break, they are always on convenient transportation routes into town.
- Find a bed and breakfast, homestay or other short-term lodging out in the countryside. In Europe, this is one of the best ways to see the culture of each destination.
Here are a selection from top French bed and breakfasts or country houses, focusing primarily in the Loire Valley’s chateaux region. Just copy the name of each on our home page’s Booking.com bright orange search box. Then you can select your dates and find the best prices. (For other price levels, change the filter on the left hand column, or select other features important to you like pet-friendly?!)
Solo Travel Destination France Great Prices: Where to Stay: 5 Options:
Manoir du Parc, a castle/manor house hotel. This elegant manor house was built in the 17th century. However, it has modern conveniences you can enjoy such as the outdoor, heated swimming pool.
Chambres d’hôte Le Clos Saint Raphaël. This bed and breakfast is a little farther from the train but is a great value. Although a quarter mile from the station, you will have a view of the fabled Chateau d’Amboise.
Le Clos d’Amboise. This chateau hotel is 4-star rated and also features a swimming pool while in the heart of Amboise.
Chateau des Arpentis. This is my favorite. It looks like the castles for which the region of Amboise is famous. On top of it, it has yet another spacious outdoor swimming pool.
