5 Star Historic Hotel in the Heart of Washington: The perfect spot for a vacation or business trip.
The Mayflower Hotel is Washington, DC’s “grande dame”. It was built in 1922 on the site of a former convent and is located in the heart of the US capitol. When it was opened in 1925, it offered guest rooms and also grand suites with up to 7 bedrooms. It had new top features like widespread air conditioning. There was even a doctor on site!
Although it thrives today, it went bankrupt in the Great Depression. It was later acquired by Hilton Hotels and is now part of Marriott’s “Autograph Collection”.
In the interim, it has still been a part of history. President Roosevelt wrote his famous speech there in which he said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. Its ball room has also been the scene of many Inaugural Balls from the time of President Calvin Coolidge.
