A Charming Introduction to Essential Croatia

Why travel with this tour operator?

This tour is through the eyes of American-owned local Croatian tour operator, TrulyCroatia.

This stellar 7-day tour will give travelers the perfect overview of Croatia but with in-depth expertise.

  • From the country’s capital of Zagreb to Dubrovnik, the most famous site on the Adriatic Coast, you will visit multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites.
  • You will next float through national parks past endless waterfalls at the Plitvice Lakes National Park.
  • As you travel on to Zadar, Trogir and Split, you will see a cultural blend from Ancient Rome to the 21st century.

Croatia Tour-The Itinerary:

DAY 1: Zagreb

Your exciting adventure has begun!

  • You will embark on a local tour of atmospheric Zagreb. Although the country’s second largest city, it retains its Old Europe charm.
  • From the Upper Town, you will view the fortifications that kept out hordes of invaders in the past to a change of pace at the Saint Stephen’s Cathedral and the fabled Saint Mark’s Church.
  • Another shift and you will find yourself perusing the nearby markets.
  • A traditional Croatian dinner at a neighboring restaurant will cap off your day!

DAY 2 : Zagreb – Plitvice Lakes National Park – Zadar

  • You will begin the day inn this vast national park of more than 70,000 acres. You will witness waterfalls plummeting from high above.
  • Then you  stroll through lush countryside and past unbelievably blue lakes in this UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • You will go boating on Croatia’s largest lake, one of 16, of the Plitvice Lakes.
  • Local specialties will be featured at a tantalizing lunch in an authentic Croatian restaurant before you make your way to Zadar on the Adriatic Coast.

DAY 3 : Zadar – Krka National Park – Zadar

  • Fans of A
  • lfred Hitchcock’s suspenseful dramas will note with interest that he viewed the Zadar sunsets as among the most beautiful in the world.  This would be the perfect spot to cap the day off with a cocktail!
  • However, before the day ends, you will have built a myriad of memories from seeing its marble (yes, marble, not cobblestone) streets. You will also visit its church of Saint Donatus and a forum from ancient times.
  • Putting aside man-made wonders, you will revel in a musical provided by nature, itself, as the Sea Organs mesmerize you with sounds from the sea.
  • You will then journey on to the lovely Krka National Park. While there, you will have a real Croatian lunch at a family estate. Then you will see traditional homes, old mills and one of the most resplendent of Europe’s waterfalls, the Skradinski Buk. You may even have a chance for  a quick dip  in the cool waters.

DAY 4: Zadar – Trogir

  • Your day begins scaling the heights of an additional UNESCO World Heritage site, scenic Trogir.
  • This town dating to the Middle Ages relishes its reputation as the one place in the world that has not changed in over two millennia.
  • The entire town is built in stone and has not allowed a single modern building to creep in!

From people watching in the town’s main square to catching the view from the hilltops, you will want to stay in Trogir forever.

DAY 5: Trogir – Split – Dubrovnik

  • From the country’s second largest city, you will marvel at the ancient ruins and the overlay of Roman history in Split.
  • The Emperor Diocletian, in the 3rd century, selected Split for his final days.
  • Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Diocletian Palace is in the middle of this 21st century city center.
  • It is still a key tourist venue. The draw? It ranges from its Roman architecture and history to the current shops and restaurants within the complex.
  • You can relax afterwards in the city’s promenade at the Splitska Riva.
  • Next you journey down through the Makarska Riviera arriving at Dubrovnik.

DAY 6: Dubrovnik

  • Dubrovnik is known worldwide as the “Pearl of the Adriatic”. This walled city is, of course, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • You will make your way through the main street or  Stradun.
  • From there, you tour Dubrovnik’s lovely Franciscan monastery.
  • At the Renaissance Sponza Palace, you will see how it combined elegance with security. Invaders were repelled by the city’s 72 foot high walls running just over a mile in length.  The multiple picturesque towers offer up great opportunities for photos.
  • You will be at your leisure in the afternoon to stroll through the city. I recommend taking the cable car to  enjoy the view from the hilltop high above Dubrovnik.

DAY 7: Dubrovnik  Time to say goodbye and head home with lots of top photos and remarkable memories.

Tour Includes:

  • Skilled English-speaking Tour Director who will be with you throughout the tour. City tours are under the guidance of experienced local teams.

  • Your city and local tours from Zagreb to Dubrovnik

  • Well-qualified drivers and top of the line air-conditioned coaches.

  • 4-5 star lodging or best available for six nights.

  • Fourteen meals which will include specialties of Croatia plus regional wines.

  • Fees for Plitvice Lakes, Krka National Parks and Saint Donat’s, Cathedral of Saint Lawrence, Diocletian’s Palace Basements, Dubrovnik’s Cultural Historical Museum and more!
