5 Star Luxury Plus History in New Delhi-Imperial Hotel: Important note: They have double rooms priced for solos. Since the default for one room is 2 adults, be sure to manually change to one adult for solo prices.
If you want to glimpse history, the Imperial Hotel is the place. I made my way by cab for high tea and to see where Gandhi often met in 1947 to negotiate India’s future. It also is an elegant spot for a 5 star trip to start a tour of the fabled Golden Triangle. Before you head out to Jaipur and the Taj Mahal, take a two day tour of Old and New Delhi.
The Imperial Hotel: Located in Connaught Place, it is a great choice for those who like fine dining and culture in a chic spot.
Just over half a mile from central New Delhi and its business district, Hotel Imperial has an outdoor pool and health club. Guests can enjoy spa services and 7 dining options. The hotel won the 2012 TripAdvisor certificate of excellence.
The Hotel Imperial is well located. For train travel: It is just a 10-minute drive from the New Delhi Train Station. A second option is the Nizamuddin Train Station 5 miles from the hotel. For flights from abroad, the Indira Gandhi International Airport is a 25-minute drive from the Imperial Hotel.
For sightseeing, the historic Chandni Chowk is a 10-minute drive away as well. Other major sights are the India Gate, Jantar Mantar and the Presidential Palace. They are not more than 5 miles from the hotel.
The large, modern rooms have high ceilings, a flat-screen cable TV, a minibar and tea and coffee-making facilities. Bathrobes, toiletries and a hairdryer are also provided.
The Hotel Imperial concierge provides assistance for tours and theater. They can help too with mobile phone rentals. Yoga classes and a book shop are available.
English afternoon high tea is provided at The Atrium. (I highly recommend it!). In addition, they offer Italian dishes at San Gimignano. For a change of pace, you can try out Daniell’s Tavern and 1911 Restaurant and Bar are available. The latter has live entertainment and drinks. Do be sure to take a photo from the patio of Gandhi’s table. It is still in use by guests today albeit for less historic events.
