4-Star Greek Island-Cephalonia: Take advantage of off-season and shoulder season rates. There will still be plenty of sun!
The “Other” Greek Isle:
Cephalonia is located on the Ionian Sea west of the Greek peninsula. It is less well-known than Santorini and Mykonos and the other Greek Isles Eastward from Athens. However, it has many of the same tourist sights: historic churches and castles and a charming light house. It also has both beaches for relaxing and caves for exploring. Archaeologists will find sites to visit as well. As an ecotour, hiking through the south island, you may see the endangered loggerhead turtle. Lastly, history buffs will be intrigued by its complex series of foreign rules. The latter includes the Turks, French, British and in earlier centuries, the city-state of Venice.
4-Star Leivatho Hotel:
Having first learned of the “other” Greek Isles from an Athens friend, Cephalonia has been on my radar for some time. In 2016, it doesn’t disappoint as a cost-effective vacation before the summer tourist rush. From its base in the Ionian Sea, it is west of the Greek peninsula unlike higher profile Mykonos and Santorini. The 4-star Leivatho Hotel received rave verified reviews, including from solo travelers. One confirmed that the beach was, in fact, really only 5 minutes walk. Whether you are a beach comber or love to explore dark caves at mid-day or marvel at Venetian-style castles, follow the link and see whether this is the right spring vacation for you.
The Leivatho Hotel is family-run and eco-friendly. It is located on Avithos Beach. Two outdoor pools are nestled in a terrace for lounging or catching rays but don’t forget your sunscreen! You can choose a room overlooking the terrace or the Ionian Sea. For added savings, modern guestrooms all have kitchens to prepare your own meals and skip higher cost restaurant cuisine. You will be welcomed on arrival with complimentary fruit and wine and start the day with a variable breakfast smorgasbord emphasizing local dishes.
If you want to watch the sun set on the sea or just relax with a frosty drink in the sunshine, the Bella Vista pool bar is at your service. For a change of pace, there is an on-site gym and sauna.
Along with free Wi-Fi, parking is provided and alternatively the Leivatho Hotel can arrange for car rentals/transportation. Come see the “other” Greece and if possible, catch pre- or post-season affordable rates.
