Solo Travel-Islands Not Just for Honeymooners: The “Other” Greek Isle:
I first heard about the “other” Greek Isles from an Athens friend. Cephalonia has been on my radar for some time. It is an affordable Greek Island even in high season. Even in May we have seen lodging at the 4-star level at less than $100/night.
Cephalonia is located in the Ionian Sea west of the Greek peninsula. Most tourists travel to the higher profile Mykonos and Santorini. This is a quieter destination with lots of intriguing natural terrain and archaeological sites. If you like to explore ancient castles, monasteries and uncrowded beaches, this could be the destination for you!

Cephalonia has an ancient history. It was previously conquered by the Turks, the Venetians, the French and the British. Cephalonia is a relatively “new” member of the unified Greek nation since the mid-19th century.
