Top solo travel destinations South of France: Villages
Not far from the wonderful Provencal towns of Arles, Avignon and St Remy de Provence, one of the most beautiful and picturesque hilltop villages in France, sits proudly and spectacularly upon a rocky outcrop high in the Alpilles mountains. Les Baux-de-Provence. While traces of habitation have been found there dating back to 6000 B.C., it was in 1642 the town was granted to the Grimaldi family, rulers of Monaco and they still have a property in the area.
In was in this area that Edith and Patrick Saut spent the early part of their lives. They moved away, had a family and were successful in their business. However because of the passion they held in their hearts for the area near Maussane, close to Les Baux, they knew they would return one day to once again walk hand in hand through the olive groves, the vineyards and the rugged countryside. And so they did.
It took them over four years to realise their dream. They did not want to just create a luxury hotel, nor did they want to have any ordinary golf course. They insisted that both compliment the land that they love so much. Despite huge challenges, that they have more than succeeded in creating a unique combination of a stunning 5 star hotel and an eco friendly golf course.
