5 Top Caribbean Destinations for Solo Travelers Guest Post

5 Top Caribbean Destinations for Solo Travelers, a Guest Post by Jean Sullivan*

There’s nothing like having a trip to an island destination in the Caribbean. The clear water, the beautiful sand, and the warm temperature make it the ideal place to enjoy yourself. The Caribbean has many places that make fulfilling destinations. Here are 5 top Caribbean destinations for solo travelers.

Jamaica

You can never go wrong with a trip to Jamdown. It’s one of the best Caribbean destinations because of the great scenery, food, and rum. If you’re looking for a night out, you should try Rick’s Cafe and The Jungle.

You’ll love Negril’s nightlife with incredible music and great-looking people with whom you can vibe as you start to enjoy the island rhythm. If you’re a bachelor or bachelorette looking for that last trip with your gang before you tie the knot, Montego Bay may be the right place for you. There are spas and resorts where you can relax and unwind before you head out for the night.

Also, you can reserve a spot at the beach to get your party on with your friends. Whether you’re looking for that bonding moment before you hang up your hat or want to rock out by yourself, this is the perfect place in Jamaica for all of that. Enjoy all that Jamdown has to offer.

Sometimes it’s great to just get away from home and have your time to breathe a bit.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

It’s simply paradise. The coral reefs, natural feel of the land, and all-inclusive resorts make it a bachelor or bachelorette’s dream. Not to mention, you won’t feel like you’re paying an arm and a leg to go there.

While it’s always great to go here during the summer, March has the Punta Cana carnival. It’s quite amazing with all the great cultural events that take place in the city. If you like an adults-only vacation, you should consider going to CHIC, which has seven restaurants.

Also, the two swim-up bars are perfect for some mid-day action by having a few drinks, eating some appetizers, and getting into the water.  Additionally, you can have a private area reserved that makes it feel as if you’re on South Beach. Enjoy the mermaid glass walls to keep you dry as you enjoy underwater.

If you still want a more natural break, Hoyo Azul is perfect because of the limestone. It makes an incredible swimming hole that feels like ancient inhabitants used this as a luxury.

You can always go mainstream by heading to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino here. Have some fun at the slots and enjoy the golf carts.

From the rich culture and people, you’ll love your time in Punta Cana.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

From the more tourist spots to Old San Juan, there’s a lot of adventure in this great place in Puerto Rico AKA La Isla. The capital of Puerto Rico is still a hot spot loved by many for the variety you get on the island.

It’s not just about beaches and water. Visit Casa Bacardi to go on a rum tour. You’ll get your bottle of rum and get in some tasting.

Even if you’re single, this is an excellent place to meet others because you get a history of the distillation process and more. If you want more of a romantic feel, it’s a good idea to check out the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico.

Here you’ll find some of the most exclusive and luxurious pieces the island has to offer. You’ll get a mix of boricua, Latin American, and Caribbean art. If you want to do something a bit different to start your day, this is a more relaxing place to do it.

Of course, you can check out El San Juan Hotel or other music venues, hot spots, and whatever else you need for an incredible night out on the town. There are plenty of places to groove and get your sip on for a fun evening out.

Turks and Caicos

If swimming is your thing, you can’t get any better than the bodies of water in this beautiful paradise.  Turks and Caicos have the third-biggest barrier reef on the planet. The miles go on for swimmable water, and you’ll see some amazing sea life you don’t get to witness very often.

From the ivory sands to the turquoise water, you’ll love the beaches. Also, you can find a secluded beach to give your space and make it feel like a private tropical destination. If you want to get some shopping done, you’ll find everything from jewelry to souvenirs at Grand Turk.

After swimming with the fish in the barrier reef, you can relax by heading to Turk’s Head Brewery. Try some delicious local beers made for sipping and enjoying your time alone or with friends. From lager, amber ale, IPA, and light, you have different choices that you can try for your palate.

Beer lovers? Be sure to book a tour where you can see the process, try some free samples, and get your brew. The cost is $15, which includes an hour’s tour and four beer samples. Make sure you book ahead of time because they’re still following Covid-19 regulations to keep everyone safe.

Virgin Islands

It’s a party-central place with beautiful scenery from the wild and plant life. You’ll enjoy the diversity there as it brings in different cultures from American, British, and island lifestyles. If you’re a history buff, check out St. John’s National Park and Annaberg Plantation to get a feel of what colonial life was like back on the island.

If you’re looking to go during the low season, before the fall hits, go right before hurricane season starts in September. Since it’s a U.S. territory, you don’t have to worry about getting a passport.

You can never go wrong with the local cuisine from the conch fritters, callaloo, and potato stuffing. The food is also fresh, which just adds to its richness and flavor.

It’s a sporty place as well. You can enjoy some activities, such as skydiving, swimming, sailing, and more. Many Olympians come here and test the waters out because it just feels great.

Whether you’re in a St. John villa destination to get some privacy or going to Negril in Jamaica to take in a more hustle and bustle approach, the Caribbean is always an ideal choice for a luxurious getaway. Find a place that you can call your home away from home. It could be the solitude you’re looking for while you’re still single.
